IPTV vs Streaming Services (Netflix, Disney+, DAZN): What Each Is Good For in 2026

IPTV and subscription streaming solve different problems. Compare live TV, sport, on-demand libraries, cost of stacking subscriptions and device support before you decide.

Rédigé par IPTV-6 Editorial Team 7 min de lecture

"Streaming" has become a word that covers two very different things: on-demand libraries like Netflix, and live television delivered over the internet, which is what IPTV is. Because both arrive over broadband and both play on the same Fire TV Stick, people assume they are interchangeable. They are not. This comparison sets out what each does well, where each falls short, what stacking subscriptions actually costs, and how most households end up combining them.

What on-demand streaming does better

Start with the honest case for Netflix and its peers, because it is strong.

Original content. The series everyone is talking about this month is, more often than not, exclusive to one platform. No IPTV service can give you that, and it would be dishonest to suggest otherwise. If your viewing is mainly prestige drama, one or two SVOD subscriptions are the right tool.

Polish. Official apps have recommendation engines, profiles for each family member, resume-anywhere across devices, offline downloads and interfaces that have had a decade of refinement. IPTV player apps are functional and improving, but they are built by small teams and look like it.

Zero configuration. You sign in and it works. An IPTV app needs a login or playlist URL entered once, and occasionally an EPG refresh. It is a five-minute job, described in our install guides, but it is still a job.

What IPTV does better

Live television. This is the whole point. News as it happens, the match at 15:00, the Saturday night entertainment show, the channel you flick to while cooking. On-demand services are, by design, incapable of this, and the "live" tabs some have added are a small subset of one country's channels.

Sport without stacking. Sports rights are fragmented by competition and by country. Following one football club through the league, the domestic cup and Europe can require three separate subscriptions, and following two sports can require five. IPTV-6 carries the broadcasters' channels for each country it serves, so Sky Sports and TNT Sports in the UK, ESPN, FS1 and NFL RedZone in the US, and Sky Sport Bundesliga and DAZN in Germany sit in one programme guide.

Channels from other countries. SVOD catalogues are geo-restricted and shrink when you travel. A multi-country IPTV service works the other way: French, British, German, Spanish and Italian channel packages are all in the one subscription, which is why it is the default choice for expats and mixed-nationality households.

A programme guide and catch-up. The EPG shows what is on now and next across every channel, and catch-up lets you start a programme that began an hour ago or watch last Saturday's match. On IPTV-6 the catch-up window runs from 3 days on the monthly plan to 14 days on the annual plan.

An on-demand library as well. IPTV-6 includes 120,000+ VOD titles alongside the live channels. It will not have this month's platform-exclusive series, but for back-catalogue films and series it covers a lot of ground and reduces the number of SVOD subscriptions a household needs.

The cost of stacking

The problem with the on-demand model is not any single price; it is the number of them. A household that wants a general entertainment library, a second one for a specific series, a sports app for the league and another for the cup can easily have four or five recurring charges, several of which quietly rise each year. Most people who do this exercise honestly find their total sits well above what a cable package used to cost.

IPTV-6's pricing is flat:

PlanEURUSDGBPConnections
1 month€12.99$14.99£11.991
3 months€29.99$34.99£27.991
6 months€49.99$54.99£44.992
12 months€79.99$89.99£69.992

Canadian and Australian prices are on the pricing page. An extra simultaneous connection is €3 per month. There are no "ad-supported" tiers, no per-screen surcharges and no price step after the first year.

The sensible comparison is not "IPTV versus Netflix" but "IPTV plus one SVOD service versus four SVOD services plus a sports app". For most households that watch anything live, the first combination is both cheaper and more complete.

Picture quality

Both models can deliver 4K. The difference is in how they adapt. SVOD apps use aggressive adaptive bitrate, so on a weak connection the picture silently softens rather than pausing. IPTV live streams have less room to adapt because there is no buffer of a whole film to draw on, so a weak connection produces a pause rather than a blur.

The practical consequence: a wired connection or strong 5 GHz Wi-Fi matters more for IPTV than for Netflix. Budget 10 Mbps per HD stream and 25 Mbps per 4K stream, and if the main TV is near the router, use Ethernet. Our buffering guide covers the rest.

Devices and apps

There is no device gap. Everything that runs Netflix runs an IPTV player:

  • Fire TV Stick — IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate. Guide, and our app comparison for Firestick.
  • Android TV / Google TV — TiviMate is the best option here. Guide.
  • Samsung and LG Smart TVs — IPTV Smarters Pro from the TV's store. Guide.
  • iPhone, iPad, Apple TV — IPTV Smarters Pro or GSE. Guide.
  • Windows — IPTV Smarters Pro or VLC. Guide.

IPTV-6 supplies both an M3U playlist and an Xtream Codes login, so you are free to choose any standard player and to change your mind later.

Legality

Netflix licenses everything it shows, and the question never arises. IPTV as a technology is equally legal; it is the same method Sky, Canal+ and Telekom use for their own apps. What varies is the licensing of the channels a given IPTV provider carries, and the rules on receiving content differ by country. IPTV-6 does not claim to hold broadcast rights, and you should check the law where you live. Our country-by-country legal guide addresses this plainly.

How most households combine them

The pattern we see most often, and the one that makes the most sense:

  1. One on-demand service for the exclusive series the household actually follows, rotated when the series ends.
  2. IPTV for everything live: news, sport, the national channels, the kids' channels, plus its VOD library for older films and series.
  3. Nothing else. The sports apps, the second and third SVOD services and the cable box go.

If the question in your mind is really "IPTV versus my cable box", that comparison is in IPTV vs cable TV. And if you have decided on IPTV and are now choosing a provider, how to choose an IPTV provider lists what to check.

Questions fréquentes

Is IPTV the same as streaming?

Technically both send video over the internet, but they serve different needs. Netflix-style services offer on-demand libraries you browse and play at any time. IPTV delivers live television channels with a programme guide, exactly like cable, plus on-demand content alongside. If you want live sport, news or a channel to flick to, that is IPTV; if you only watch series and films, on-demand services are enough.

Can IPTV replace Netflix and Disney+?

Partly. IPTV-6 includes a 120,000-title on-demand library alongside 25,000+ live channels, which covers a lot of films and series. Original productions exclusive to a specific platform are only available on that platform. Many households keep one on-demand service for originals and use IPTV for everything live.

Why do I need so many streaming subscriptions to watch sport?

Because sports rights are sold per competition and per country, and each broadcaster puts its matches behind its own app. Following one club through league, cup and European competition can mean three separate subscriptions. An IPTV service carries the broadcasters' channels in one guide, which is why it is so popular with sports viewers.

Does IPTV work on the same devices as Netflix?

Yes. Fire TV Stick, Android TV, Samsung and LG Smart TVs, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Windows all run IPTV player apps such as IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate. The apps are free and take a few minutes to set up with the login your provider sends.
