A Samsung or LG Smart TV can run IPTV with nothing plugged into it. That is the appeal: open the app store, install a player, enter your login, and the 25,000-channel package appears on the biggest screen in the house. The trade-offs are real, though. The app selection is narrower than on Android, the TV's processor is slower than a dedicated box, and the platforms behave differently from each other. Samsung Tizen and LG webOS: what you need to know
Samsung TVs run Tizen; LG TVs run webOS. Neither is Android, so the Android apps you see recommended elsewhere, TiviMate above all, do not run on them. Only apps published to the Samsung and LG stores are available, and the stores differ by country and by TV model year. An app listed on a 2024 Samsung in France may not appear on a 2019 model in Canada.
That is not a reason to avoid the built-in route, but it is why we recommend checking the app store for your specific TV before you assume anything.

IPTV Smarters Pro on Tizen and webOS
This is the app to look for first. It behaves much like its Android and iOS versions: Live TV, Movies and Series sections, a channel list with now-and-next information, a full guide, catch-up, and favourites. Logging in with the Xtream Codes details from IPTV-6 loads the guide and the on-demand library automatically. The interface was designed for touch and adapted for a remote, so navigation is a little more cursor-driven than TiviMate users would like, but it is a complete and usable daily app.
Playlist-based apps
Several TV-store apps take only an M3U link, and some require you to register the TV's MAC address on the app developer's website, occasionally for a small fee. They are lightweight and quick to load, but they show channels without a guide unless you also enter the EPG URL, and they generally lack catch-up and a browsable VOD library. Casting from another device
Both platforms accept AirPlay (from iPhone, iPad or Mac) and casting or screen mirroring from Android and Windows. The TV becomes a display and the phone or laptop does the playing. It works for a one-off, but it drains the phone, ties it up, and the picture is often downscaled. It is a fallback, not a setup.
Setup summary

- Connect the TV to the internet, by Ethernet if the port is within reach of your router. Both Samsung and LG TVs have one.
- Open the app store (Samsung Apps or the LG Content Store) and search for IPTV Smarters Pro. Install it.
- Open the app and choose "Login with Xtream Codes API". Enter the server URL, username and password from your IPTV-6 welcome email exactly as written; TV on-screen keyboards make it easy to add a stray space.
- Wait for the guide. The first EPG load takes a minute or two on a TV processor.
- Hide the countries you do not watch in the app settings so the channel list becomes manageable.
- If Smarters is not available: install a playlist app, enter the M3U link, then add the EPG URL in its settings.
Typing long server addresses with a remote is the most tedious part. Both Samsung and LG TVs accept a USB keyboard, and their companion phone apps (SmartThings and LG ThinQ) offer a keyboard mode, which makes this much faster.
Smart TV-specific tips
Expect slower channel switching than on a box. TV processors are built for the interface and the picture, not for parsing large playlists. A 25,000-channel service loads, but scrolling through everything is sluggish. Hiding unused groups helps a lot, and using the Xtream login rather than M3U helps too, because categories load on demand.
Turn off motion smoothing for sport. Samsung calls it Auto Motion Plus, LG calls it TruMotion. It interpolates frames and makes 50fps football look artificial. Set it to off or to a custom low setting in the picture menu.
Check the output frame rate. Most TVs display 50 Hz content natively. Where the app cannot switch, you may see a small judder on European sport; a Fire TV Stick or Android box with frame-rate matching fixes it.
Use the TV's Ethernet port. Smart TV Wi-Fi radios are placed behind a large metal panel and are often weaker than a phone's. A cable removes most buffering complaints.
Keep the TV software updated, but check the app still opens afterwards. Updates occasionally reset app permissions or remove apps.
Do not rely on the TV to power a stick. If you add a Fire TV Stick later, use the mains adapter that comes with it; the TV's USB port often cannot supply enough current for a 4K stick under load.
