Internet speed for IPTV in HD and 4K

Plan a Canadian or US home network with Netflix and YouTube speed tables, then test Ethernet against Wi Fi. This page publishes no bitrate of its own.

This page is about the network in a house or apartment in Canada or the United States. It does not publish a bitrate for IPTV 6. The numbers below are copied from public help pages, checked on 15 October 2026, and they describe those companies own video.

What speed does HD or 4K video need?

Netflix recommends 3 Mbps or higher for 720p, 5 Mbps or higher for 1080p, and 15 Mbps or higher for 4K. YouTube recommends about 5 Mbps for 1080p and 20 Mbps for 4K. Those figures are per stream on their help pages. They are not a measurement of this service.

If you want headroom for one 4K stream, the higher public figure is YouTube at 20 Mbps. YouTube also lists about 2.5 Mbps for 720p on that same page. Sources, both public: Netflix recommended internet speeds and YouTube system requirements. Netflix also says many factors change quality, and it names fast.com as a browser check. A live sports stream can be heavier than a film those tables were written for, so treat the table as a floor for planning, not as a guarantee that a match will hold.

Two screens are arithmetic, not a new test. Two 1080p streams at the Netflix figure of 5 Mbps each ask the line to carry about 10 Mbps before anyone else in the home uses it. The 1 month and 3 month plans include one screen. The 6 month and 12 month plans include two. Say how many rooms need a picture at the same time before you pay.

How do you test the connection properly?

Test the device that will play the picture, at the hour you watch, not a laptop at noon. Prefer a cable from the router to the device. Then repeat on Wi Fi if a cable is impossible. Write down both results. A test that only runs on a phone in another room does not describe the television.

Netflix tells viewers to open fast.com in a browser, or to use the network check inside the Netflix app on a television. Use that as a connectivity check. It does not tell you the bitrate of a channel you have not opened yet. After the number looks high enough on paper, play one channel you know for ten minutes and change channel a few times.

Order of checks when the picture stalls:

  1. The same channel on a phone, on the home Wi Fi. If the phone is smooth, the television path is the problem.
  2. The television device on a phone hotspot for two minutes. If the hotspot is smooth and the home Wi Fi is not, move the device or use a cable.
  3. A reboot of the device and of the player.
  4. A mistyped password. Retype it from the chat.

If it stalls everywhere, including the cable, at the hour you watch, that result belongs on the WhatsApp thread. You are not obliged to pay.

Is Ethernet better than Wi Fi?

Yes for stability. A cable does not share the air with a microwave, a neighbour, or a console in the next room. YouTube's help page says a wired network can help. If the device cannot take a cable, use 5 GHz in the same room as the router. Pause other video in the house for the ten minute test.

Powerline, sometimes called CPL, sends the network through the electrical wiring. It works in some homes and fails in others. There is no public figure on this page for it, because the result depends on the wiring. Try it only as a comparison against Wi Fi, and keep the Ethernet result as the reference when you can.

A VPN is not required to receive a login. A far server can make the picture worse. This site does not sell a way around a block by an internet provider. The useful test is still the cable at the hour you watch.

When is the problem the service rather than the house?

When a cable to the router stalls, a phone on that same cable stalls, and the public speed check still shows enough for the quality you chose. Then write to WhatsApp at +44 7307 410512 with the city, the device, and the number the test showed.

A person can compare that with the hour you watch. Do not send a playlist address to a group. The longer Fire TV notes, still without a file link, are in Install IPTV on a Fire TV Stick. Stick settings that are not about the speed of the line are in Optimise a Fire TV Stick. A shorter stall checklist is in IPTV buffering. Device steps start at the install index. Service notices, when a probe is configured, are on the status page. Other questions are on the FAQ.

What should you tell support in Canada or the United States?

The city, the device, and whether the test was on Ethernet or Wi Fi. Toronto and Montrรฉal do not share an evening with a house in Texas. The thread can be in English or French. The trial is 24 hours. Start it when you will actually watch.

Eastern time and Pacific time are both in use, so name the city rather than a generic evening. Check the law where you live before you pay. IPTV 6 does not claim broadcast rights. This page is not legal advice, and it does not publish a case list. It also does not rank a provider or show stars.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

  • What speed do I need for 4K?

Use a public table, not a number invented here. Netflix recommends 15 Mbps or higher for 4K on its help page. YouTube recommends about 20 Mbps for 4K on its help page. Those are per stream, for their own video. Test at the hour you watch, in Canada or the United States.

  • Is Ethernet better than Wi Fi?

Ethernet is the steadier path because it avoids radio interference. If a cable will not reach, use the 5 GHz name of the Wi Fi in the same room as the router. A phone hotspot that looks fine for two minutes does not prove the evening will hold. Powerline is a test, not a promise.

  • Why does the picture stall only in the evening?

Evening is when more people in the home, and often on the same street, use the connection. Test at that hour, not at lunch. Try a cable to the router. If the stall remains on the cable and on a phone, write the result to WhatsApp. A VPN is not required.
